The Morristown Unitarian Fellowship is a congregation of music lovers.  Our music program features three choirs and many congregant soloists and instrumentalists, as well as frequent guest performers.  We also offer an annual concert series and composer in residence program, and workshops on congregational singing and musical participation.  Sunday Services exhibit robust congregational singing, choir anthems and instrumental solos in diverse musical styles and periods.  Our grand piano and harpsichord are frequently used instruments, but congregants also may encounter drums, orchestral instruments, guitars or jazz ensembles.  Music at the Fellowship engages congregants of all ages and musical tastes.

Other Musical Programs

Sunday Mornings are not the only times that the halls at MUF ring with the sounds of music. Here is a list of some of the concerts, classes and special events that make our home "sing."

Children's ChoirTHE SCIENCE OF MUSIC COMES TO MUF

Why do wooden instruments sound different from metal instruments? Why is the sound different when striking a drum with a hard mallet as opposed to a soft mallet? Examining the fascinating relationship of music and science, the Science of Music program for all ages will be presented at MUF on Saturday, March 27 at 7 PM . Performers Chris Lance, trumpet; Todd Van Gordon, clarinet; Beth Wilson, piano and Jim Harp, percussion and host Dr. Jim Blanton will perform short musical pieces in diverse styles to demonstrate the principals of sound and vibration, and will show how the quality of sound is affected by shape and material. Audience members will accompany the performers using claps, snaps and lap slaps, and will construct and play along on a “Canobottlephone” (metal soda cans, plastic and glass bottles).

Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door and $5 for youth 18 years and under. All ages are encouraged to attend (so bring the kids!).

The Folk Project Minstrel Concert Series is now in residence at MUF. Folk concerts every Friday night.
