Sunday
Morning Services

Honoring what we know of each other
and trusting what we
do not yet know,
we gather to create a safe, loving community
where we use words as tools, not dogma.
Prepare your spirit to explore, experience, and
express
the mystery and wonder of existence.
Enter with an open
heart and mind.

Traditions of Giving
Fred Blanken and Dennis Luken
There are many cultural and spiritual practices of giving and charity throughout history and our current world. We, as Unitarian Universalists, through our covenant and our actions, have embraced and engendered a culture of generosity of our own. One of our proudest and most significant contributions are the youth we raise, teach and cherish. Considering our dedication to providing a culture where the youth of our spiritual community can learn to appreciate their place in and responsibility for our congregation, our community, our nation and our world, they represent our greatest contribution to the future.

Our Sunday Services seek to meet the spiritual, emotional, and
intellectual needs of our members and friends both as individuals and as
a religious community. Services are presented either by our minister Rev. Alison B. Miller
or by lay members of our congregation, under the coordination of our
Sunday Services Committee.
This gives our services diversity and
vitality, and allows members to share their outlooks and experiences in
a personal way. Music, art, dance, and nature are ever-present parts of
our services, as we celebrate those things that add richness and meaning
to our lives.

Toward Right
Relations
In
1995 the UUA passed a resolution "toward safe congregations and right
relations." This year's General Assembly carried this theme,
acknowledging that we are far from journey's end. This service will
explore what it means to be in right relations with one another, with
our congregation, with our community and with our
planet?

It's Time to Say Yes
Over the course of the past few decades, the religious right
has undertaken a highly effective campaign to raise its profile and
influence public policy. How should religious liberals respond to these
developments? What does our faith affirm as liberating, transformative
and good, and what could we be doing to be a more visible and effective
presence in our world?
Worship service led by the Rev. Evan Keely
Interim Minister,
UU Congregation of Somerset Hills

Why Prison Ministry?
If we believe in "the inherent worth and dignity of every
person," then UUs have a faith message that is desperately needed in
prisons. When people enter prison they are stripped of their humanity
and hope. Gloria Jackson leads a service showing how we, as UUs, can
come in from the outside and acknowledge our shared humanity. We can
give them hope and a connection to the world outside the walls.

Beyond Iron John: The
Spiritual Needs of Men
Many men often feel alone, particularly when facing some of
the most difficult issues life presents. However, this and other
communities afford their members of the gender that all too often seeks
to "go it alone" the chance to share and support one another. During
this service, you will hear how many men at MUF have found greater
strength in numbers.
Worship service
coordinated by MUF members Tony Rutigliano, Gary Kunz and Steve
Parker

Holdin' On: What
Sustains You When the Going Gets Tough?
With words, music and poetry, MUF members and friends share
stories of tough times and what (or whom) they turned to for help in
getting through.
Worship service

July 16, 2006
Things Aren't Always
What They Seem
In this life we are often surprised (and sometimes deceived)
when the "obvious" is anything but. Results range from the sublime to
the ridiculous. Stories and songs by members of the Story Weavers-Ken
Galipeau, Carol Titus and others-will illustrate this principle, for
adults and young persons 10 years and older.
Worship service
coordinated by MUF member Carol Titus

Community of Faith?
What does it mean to be a person of faith within a religious
community that embraces no creed? This sermon will
explore how we as Unitarian Universalists express and wrestle with Faith
in light of our search for truth and meaning.
Worship service led
by Greg Geiger, Ministerial Student at Union Theological Seminary
July 2, 2006
Our Wounded
Stories
All of us experience loss, pain and grieving at several times
in our lives. The stories of these experiences have a healing
power of their own. With them, the teller has the potential to
heal both the people near them and the storyteller themselves.
Worship service led
by Greg Geiger, Ministerial Student at Union Theological Seminary
